This course will cover water rescue skills needed for Surface Water Rescue, Rescue Boat,and Personal Water Craft requirements Level 1 and Level 2 as per NFPA Section 1006 Technical Rescuer Qualifications that meets NFPA standards. |
Course Details: |
This course provides the skills needed to operate a rescue/patrol boat and perform rescues in bays, harbors, ports, and the open ocean. Safety, course philosophy, water rescue terminology are covered as well as boat handling skills. "In water" experiences for students include how to read currents, understanding tidal flow, how to operate a boat safely around obstacles and in traffic. ther items covered are deploying rescue swimmers, communications, towing, and re-righting capsized boats. Also included are methods for setting up boats for maximum efficiency, along with executing pre/post-inspections of the rescue boat. This course provides the skills needed to operate a personal watercraft (PWC) and perform rescues in, bays, harbors and open water ituations. Safety, course philosophy, and PWC terminology are covered. "In water" experiences for students include reading wave dynamics, understanding currents for self-rescue and victim-rescue operations. Other skills learned are basic boat handling, deploying rescue swimmers along with executing pre and post operation inspections of the PWC. |
Duration: 40 hrs (classes are a normally a maximum of 8 hrs per day class time) |
Prerequisites: Must have good swimming skills. |
